A popular and rather variable old variety dating from the 18th Century and hailing from Trent near Sherborne. Once called the ‘Cottage Apple’ it was found in many gardens and orchards in the West and still survives |

General description |
A large, broadly conical, rather knobbly and irregular apple, more or less covered with bright red stripes. Tends to rot quickly after it drops. |

Cider |
Our 2007 cider we described as pale straw coloured, fresh, slightly piquant, light and sharp with a slightly metallic aftertaste. A clean fresh cider good on its own but more useful blended.
