Late Midseason Sweet Cider Apple

 

Origin and distribution

 

An old Devon variety. A coppin is an old name for a spinning top. Once widely distributed both in old traditional orchards and more modern ones. Still found as recently planted standard trees.

 

General description

 

Basically conical in shape, often large. The skin is pale yellow often with a patch of mauveish flush. Stem is short and woody.

 

Season

 

Ready from end of October into November.

 

Typical Juice

 

SG 1.052, acidity 0.20%, tannin 0.14 g/l

 

Cider

 

Pure sweet, sometimes mildly astringent. Useful for blending.
