Origin and distribution |
Found throughout Dorset, Somerset and Devon where it is still a popular variety in traditional orchards. One of a group of similar varieties, all vigorous trees with sweet tasting fruit producing cider with a curious woody aftertaste. Closely related to Northwood and Slack-ma-Girdle. Still produced as standard trees. |

Medium sized fruits, flattened and two thirds covered with a distinctive rosy-red striped flush, speckled with small brown dots. |

Cider |
Woodbine cider is rather lacking in character, but has a pleasant, woody flavour. It is useful for blending but fermentation may be slow.
